A framework for Sunday Instagram Stories

Do you have a plan for leveraging Instagram Stories for Sunday engagement on Social? In this post, I will share a strategy for leveraging Instagram Stories to amplify engagement on Sunday and create momentum for engagement with your digital audience Monday thru Saturday.

For years our culture has established a rhythm of attending church services on Sunday. Although we are streaming services more than ever, we still premiere it on Sunday. Why? Because this is the current rhythm of our culture. It is the rhythm of engagement with attendees and interested attenders. We see this same rhythm on display with the weekly engagement churches receive on their social accounts. Sundays yield a more significant rate of post engagement.

I could go through your church’s posts, and most likely, you have higher engagement with your Sunday posts than your Monday thru Saturday posts. This doesn’t mean to discontinue posting during the week. What you do on Sunday could help with your midweek engagement.

For many Sundays now, I have used a framework to engage our audience on Instagram Stories. Let me be clear. It is just a framework. It’s a plan you can use every Sunday. You can omit parts, and you can add to it, and if you use it, you will be increasing engagement with your Sunday audience. It’s like pulling a rubber band back on Sunday and letting it go into Monday.

Here’s the framework in terms of posts.

  1. Post a good morning or welcome graphic.

  2. Post pre-service photos of people.

  3. Post worship and teaching photos.

  4. Post a quote from the message.

  5. Post a graphic of upcoming events.

  6. Post discussion questions related to the message.

  7. Post a see you next week or have a great week graphic.

When possible, use the native engagement tools on Instagram like questions, countdowns, quizzes, and polls. Be as creative as you want to be. The goal here is consistency for engagement. You can create stunning graphics or use one of my favorite apps, Unfold, to create posts. See the photo below for an example of a Story made using the Unfold app and stock images.

This framework has been helpful for our team and me. I hope it helps create a starting point for Sunday engagement on Instagram Stories for you. If you would like a PSD of the artboard above, download it here.
